about

I wrote this song when I took a hiking trip out to Colorado with some of my best friends. I was listening to the song "Back of Your Old Church" by Andy Hull a lot at the time. I had also just graduated college and a handful of deaths just occurred around me. This song is a reflection of change. Friends and life coming and going at a time when major change was happening for myself and everyone I knew.

lyrics

There always comes a year
When death becomes
A familiar friend to all my friends around here
It brings back sad memories
Of singing songs and watching sights
Of all the captains bow, bow their heads and sing,

“Good bye, good bye.”

Your friends will come and go
Never to be replaced
But that doesn’t mean that the time well spent
Hinged on words that I never meant
Unstable as your were, I was sporting the same coat.

Like smoking your last cigarette,
Watching your life float right on by
We told you many times that this could be the end

“Good bye, good bye.”

There always comes a year
For one whole day
One lonely minute
One damned second
When the hero has gone and died,
With no one at their side,
There’s a shrine in my throat
For a breathtaking suicide

“Good bye, good bye.”
